This exciting sport have lots of attractions. So much so till many forgotten that it is actually a sport of kings. Exclusive for the elites, kings and queens. But these 200 years old sport have became a money making tools for the business man or those born with a silver spoon. The ‘big heart’ guys with some spare cash who wanted to have the freedom to name their horse will consider buying their own horses. Other benefits of owning horse is they got to keep the winning stakes monies if their horse won some. These winning stakes monies can be very huge for higher class races.THese stakes money can be up to $SGD 1.35Million a race, and horse owners can take home 48% of that if their horse win the race.
Horse owners appoint a horse trainers to train their horse. Horse owners will have to check with the Turf Club for contact numbers of trainers in Singapore. There is about 30 horse trainers to choose from. Horse trainers will then plan for the horse training program and feeding too. Horse owners depends on their horse trainers a lot. They depends on the judgement of their horse trainers and some horse owners make bets to their horses.
Some horse performed so well, showed lots of guts during daily morning training. They also get feedback from track riders or jockeys on the feel the get when galloping those horses. Many horse can performed as good as it have shown, but some are the opposite. The horse got stage fright, became nervous and failed.
Horse owners will be unhappy to trainers and even resort to transferring the job to other trainer. When this happened, experience became your best teacher. The next time horse trainers would only safe guard himself/ herself by telling horse owners that the horse is good, eating well and looks like he will race well and add up to a ‘little cushion’ by saying this is a horse racing anything can happen.. do not go crazy. So after the race should the horse did not win.. at least he/she got himself covered.
The lower income group takes it as a week end show and tried to hit some big money in guessing the top four horse to finished the line. In Singapore they called it a Quartet bet.
Punters look for tips or inside new from stable boys, syce, track riders and any one who works inside the turf club. Some are track watchers, these people have sharp eyes and good memory. Some do this full time.
